Celebrating the International Women’s Day, I decided to write this short article about the woman I really admire. Well, now it’s time to begin my report!

She was born on July 1, 1945 and her birth name was Angela Trimble. Deborah was one of the most famous New Wave singers and actresses. Her extraordinary manner of facial expressions, singing skills and defiant clothes literally forced any viewer to listen to Blondie’s TV performances. Don’t get me wrong, of course I meant “Blondie” as the band where Deborah acted as a leader.

Blondie — Parallel Lines (1978) — one of the most famous albums of the band

It is necessary to mention, that Deborah influenced the whole New Wave movement seriously, a lot of artists tried to pick something from this band to express yourself better in their albums (Missing Persons, Kim Wilde, etc), also, Blondie were one of the first bands to inroduce the “pure aesthetics” of the New Wave style as well as The Boomtown Rats, The Police, The Jam, Joy Division(New Order), Alan Parsons Project, Gary Numan and others.

Blondie was blamed for oversexualisation and moral decay of the young audience, but only because of her intentions, TV let other acts to be more liberated than before in a good way. For example, a lot of New Wave songs started to take serious positions in charts in 1978, when they were nearly completely ignored by mass media before. Nevertheless, New Wave bands as well as Blondie were really dedicated to art (in comparison to the previous generation of music which was mostly commercially directed), that’s why it was chosen by a lot of people, they was tired of “fashion wars” of the sixties and seventies.

Harry and her audio setup (ordinary for those days)

Actually, it can go on forever, because I have a lot to tell, but I don’t want this report to be a lecture.

Here are some facts which I found interesting:
- Deborah was and orphan.
- She had long lasted relationships with Chris Stein until 1989.
- She was an actress and played the lead roles in Union City (1980) and Videodrome (1983).
- Blondie’s hit song “Rapture” (1980) was the first rap song to hit the UK charts.
- Deborah wasn’t rich (as anyone imagine) because of the label’s policy and high cost of band’s albums production.
- You’ve probably heard “Heart of Glass” song, bet on it.

Well, that’s all for now, thank you for reading!
